Although cats are thought to have been domesticated during the Egyptian period, their history is actually as old as human history. However, it is quite natural to associate cats with Ancient Egypt because the Egyptians adored their cats. We see the most cat figure paintings and carvings as artifacts from this period. The cat-headed goddess Bastet also shows how much importance this culture attached to the cat. Similarly, in Chinese culture, there is the goddess Li Shou depicted in the form of a cat.
Of course, cats have not always been seen as cute and useful animals. There were also periods when cats were associated with evil and demonic deeds. In the Middle Ages, they were also identified with women accused of witchcraft. However, cats have nothing to do with evil, just as sorceresses do not exist. As long as there are evil people, unfortunately, there are still those who use cats for their evil purposes.
As it is known in our country, cats are very loved and valued. In this sense, Istanbul is known as the cat city CATISTANBUL among tourists and animal lovers in other countries. It is pleasing that cats are also a source of attraction for Istanbul, our distinguished city, which is unique in the world. One of the foundations of this love is that the cat is seen as a clean and beautiful animal in Islam. It is rumored that the Prophet Muhammad cut his robe in order not to wake a cat. There is also such a love for cats among Muslims.
In our opinion, based on our personal experience, the domestication of cats is controversial. Because cats are unique animals in their own right. It is more like humanity has adapted to the cat in this day and age. Otherwise, how can it be explained that these animals, whose homeland is Mesopotamia, are in every home all over the world. Cats seem to have invaded the world. And they have made humans do it with their sweetness, cuteness and unique personalities. This shows that these naturally narcissistic creatures, who are actually very fond of their freedom, live in our homes as pets because they want to. Or could it be that cats are the very aliens whose existence we have always suspected?
